FAQ

A Family Dog Mediator is a professional with a credential focused on applied ethology (the science of animal behavior in natural context), trained to help families and their dogs actually understand each other. Our focus is less on obedience and more on the “why” of it all. A lot of times an underlying welfare issue is driving conflict between guardians and their dogs.

Honestly, enrichment planning can help any dog. Ensuring you’re meeting your dogs needs helps buffer against problem behaviors. But, if your pup has already thrown you a plot twist, we can help with normal reactivity, leash pulling and loose leash walking, house and crate training issues, destructive behaviors (chewing, shredding, digging), basic skill building (which you probably know as “obedience” training), confidence building (working with nervous or shy dogs), and hyperactive dogs. We can help you whether you have a brand new puppy, an aging dog, or an adolescent who is driving you nuts (they will drive you nuts).

We provide in-person dog training and family dog mediation in Lexington, Fayette County, Jessamine County, Clark County, and Montgomery County.

Of course! In particular, enrichment plans and dogscaping consultations can be done virtually. Private training sessions can as well depending on the dog guardian’s level of comfort with learning online.

Reactive dogs can benefit significantly from good management and enrichment practices and we are comfortable aiding guardians in basic instruction on behavior modification for reactive dogs. However, for more complex cases, we may refer you to trainers with more specialized expertise in that area. Lucky for you, we know a couple excellent ones!

Aggression is super complex and as with reactive dogs, we think these pups can benefit from solid enrichment and management plans as well as muzzle training! However, more complex cases may need more specialized help, which we can help you find!

We do! While we are not here to fight over methodology or tools, Revel Dogs does not use punishment-based methodologies. We want to build social currency with our dogs, we want relationships centered on trust and, in our experience, positive reinforcement works.
